Warhammer Battle Reports 7th / 8thNauticans / Design Fantasy Gallery

New Chaos Nurgle Models for Fantasy Battle

Warhammer Forge release nine new Nurgle miniatures in the shape of Chaos Trolls, Chaos Ogres and, errr... Chaos Toads ?!

I'm not much into the Toads to be frank (the modeling is good but they're just not really my "cup of pus tea"). I personally prefer the Trolls and I really like the Ogres which are excellent. Loads more pics on the new Warhammer Forge page at Forgeworld.co.uk:-

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters

They have even come out with some experimental profiles and rules for for Plague Toads and the Bile Trolls which is a very nice touch (see above link). The surrounding fluff is great too (especially for the devoted Chaos worshipper who likes to talk filthy !)

from the Plague Toad rules "...Plague-Toads, also known as rot-eaters, and sewerkin; mutated, toad-like bags of brackish filth and pus whose wide maws can swallow a man whole." - [Ed. Nice !]

They are all multi-part resign models and all three Ogres have inter-changeable weapons and heads.

(BTW, my limited understanding of resin models is that they are not quite plastic but definitely not metal. I believe this makes them cheaper than metal, it means they don't have to spend a lot of money on expensive plastic molding machines used for mass production but the models themselves are not as robust [so don't throw them against the wall when you lose !] - that's my layman's understanding of it anyway. Please correct me if I'm wrong).

Skaven Doomsday Device & free Battlefield Challenge Scenario PDF

Games Workshop posted an excellent blog update, a free Skaven scenario pdf and some superb scenery and war machine conversion models (like the Skaven Doomsday Device and the Warplightning-Ratling-Cannon-Cannon, [brilliant name - lol !]  The pics come via GW courtesy of some great modelers, painters and thinkers at the Drakenburg Hobby Centre in Düsseldorf).

From the GW "What's on Today" blog and well worth a read:-

Great minds came up with these excellent conversions, truly superb work and very inspiring. Thanks to the guys at the Drakenburg Hobby Center for putting in all the hard work and sharing their pics with GW.

BTW, the Warplightning-Ratling-Cannon-Cannon "will be used to take over the world !"

Converted and Customized WFB models - wanted !

Customized, converted or scratch built model competition for Fantasy Battle Miniatures Gallery.

Custom Skaven Warlord picture
Hi folks, I'm planning to run a competition for the best WFB model conversions. Included will be any models, terrain or scenery that you have customized, converted in some way or even built from scratch that can be used in a friendly Warhammer Fantasy battle game.

The models don't have to be of uber-pro quality, lots of people will vote for fun, imaginative and inspiring pieces as much as they will for expert painted and constructed ones.

Your entry could be anything from a converted standard bearer or musician to a huge machinery of destruction such as your own super rat sized Doomwheel or even your very own Warhammer mountain !

We'll need some good quality pictures so we can show them off on the:- Fantasy Miniatures Gallery then we'll ask the Warhammer community to vote on a winner.

If you have seen any conversions online but they're not actually your work please submt the links and I will ask the owner of the blog / website / facebook page for their permission to enter their miniature / model into the competition.

Here's a form you can use to post links to the model photos. You can add other info there aswell if you please, eg. a profile for the miniature or it's Warhammer history or how you put it together.

The prize - bragging rights and a really good write up on the Fantasy Miniatures Gallery with links back to your blog / website / facebook page etc.

Please spread the word around the internet, the more entries the better.

Warhammer 8th Edition Battle Reports

Fantasy Battle Reports for Warhammer 8th edition rulebook.

I set up a new site some time ago for Bat Reps for the lastest Warhammer rulebook (ie 8th edition). Well, now I have it properly up and running (and it can be viewed in all internet browsers - which it couldn't before!) I thought I'd better let everyone know.

I'm trying to pick the best battle reports I can find and I expect to be adding a couple every week (including still videos (ie. slideshows with narration / audio commentary), real time videos, battle stories and of course the traditional maps and photo battle reps. There are 20 reports on the site right now.

Here are the key features of the new-ish site:-

  • A running tally of the best Warhammer armies (% wins or draws)
  • A table to let you choose the armies involved in the battle.
  • An intro before each battle which gives you an idea why I added it to the site.
  • A widget to allow you to rate each report.
  • A list of the most popular reports.
  • A link to Battle Chronicler the excellent (and free !) Battle Reporting software.
  • Links back to all my other blogs and to 190+ 7th edition battle reports.
  • Loads of links to other Warhammer fan-sites in the blogroll
  • A list of the most popular battle reports
  • Stacks of adverts for eBay Warhammer Fantasy miniatures and terrain / scenery.

Last but not least Facebook and Google Follow widgets so you can follow the blog (if you have a Google account / gmail) and join the "Warhammer Battle Reporters" Facebook group where I post all my lastest Warhammer and blog news.

I hope you like it. Please let me know what you think by posting a comment here or on the bat rep site.

PS. there's a permanent link to the 8th edition and the 7th edition site at the top of this blog under the eBay adverts (you'll see the latest battle reports count for each site). Note: 7th ed site is still being added to.

New Undead Cavalry Miniatures

The first set of new resin / plastic miniatures from Mantic Games are called Revenants, they're Undead Army Cavalry and they are extremely good value - less plastic used for undead models ;-)

These are fairly neat 28mm scale models. There is a superb and very detailed review of them on Total Wargamer below (apparently, from the parts provided it's possible to build 4 different mounts and 7 different horsemen (of the apocalypse I presume !) plus a 3 model command:-

http://www.totalwargamer.co.uk/blog/?p=1027

I've trawled around a bit it and it sounds like the models are going down very well. They are certainly good value for money at £25 for 10 (that's about $39 USD). If you visit Total Wargamer above they are actually running a 25% discount on the minis at the moment so they work out as £18.74 (see above link above).

The Mantic photos aren't great, they need to get higher definition shots with better lighting but they should give you a good idea of what to expect.

A Free War Gaming PDF Magazine

Not very Warhammer Fantasy Battle related (although there is a nice feature on a GW Games Day*) but a very inspirational magazine worthy of a read and therefore worth sharing with you.

Battle Games Magazine Cover picture
This magazine won't be to all of my reader's tastes but I feel that it genuinely portrays the passion that so many have for the war gaming hobby. It's an 81 page general War Games mag which I've really enjoyed reading so far.

Open this in Adobe Reader:-
http://www.battlegames.co.uk/documents/Battlegames_three-year-freebie.pdf

It's quite a serious mag, very well written (to a professional standard) and contains loads of examples of previous magazine articles covering all manner of game systems that are a delight to browse through.

I love the archive photos of some of the first tabletop war gamers from way back in the 1960's. There are also some very generic themes mentioned that apply to us all... "There does come a point in a project for everyone where you think you could do with painting something else!"

I'll be printing this off at work to read on the train. I've already spotted a very interesting article on Wild West gaming named "Quickdraw" (a Cowboy Skirmish) which includes, from the look of it, all the rules needed to play. I might well post a follow up article on that system on the Miniatures and Modeling Gallery blog that I use to post anything inspiring I find in the world of gaming.

* the writer says that the GW Games Day in Birmingham UK attracts more visitors than all 5 of the GW Games Day events in the US added together ! It came as quite a surprise to me because I would have thought WFB was bigger in the US now than the UK.
