Cygor, Ghorgon, Jabberslythe - Official GW models

It looks like White Dwarf is show-casing some long and eagerly awaited Beastmen Rare units - hurray :) (Games Workshop finally got around to them!)

From the look of it, the Ghorgon and Cygor are alternative assemblies of the same boxed set (although I could be wrong so don't take my word for it !). I reckon we can expect to see a few more Beastmen armies in future with these new units (which are kind of essential to the Beastmen army and must have have been missed by regular Beastmen players).

The Jabberslythe looks quite similar to the one sculpted by the...
Miniature Painting Group (who also do an excellent Ghorgon and Cygor).

Fantastic Cygor Model

An excellent new miniature from Bane Beasts - they called it KERMORANNAC; SAVAGE OGHURÜC, I call it a Beastmen Army Cygor !

Awesome model; totally insane, one-eyed, lots of horns, yummy pig lunch in one hand and sacrificial pointy rock in another and check out the hooves ! Yep, it's a Cygor alright.

BaneBeasts' models (owned by Maelstrom Games) are pretty awesome really.

Jabberslythe Model !

A custom sculpted Jabberslythe miniature for use with the Beastmen Fantasy Battle army - at last !

There still isn't an official Jabberslythe Warhammer model from Games Workshop so the Miniature Painting Group (MPG) have come up with their own and they'll mold one for you (and paint it if you like).

MPG have also produced a great Cygor model and a really, really great Ghorgon.

MPG don't stop there, they have quite a few other difficult to find miniatures that don't have an official GW version - yet?!

Here are some snippets from the Jabberslythe description in the Beastmen Army book, see for yourself if the sculpt is an accurate representation of the monster, I reckon they've done a pretty good job of it...

"Ungainly and clumsy creatures... they have a thick sticky proboscis-like tongue... rudimentary wings... vile appearance... nightmarish vision... fang-ridged maw... erratic and ungainly flight..."

It's a fairly chunky model standing over 5 inches high, check out the slideshow pic including Count Mannfred for a size comparison. It also has an excellent twisted tree base to represent it's deep, dark forest lair.

Ghorgon Miniature !

Spell it however you want:- Gorgon, Gorghon or the correct Ghorgon, it doesn't really matter it sounds the same and it will still tear the limbs from most of your Warhammer Fantasy enemies :) This model is superb and MASSIVE !

Coming it at almost 14 centimeters this bad boy is going to stand out on the Warhammer battlefield. The modelling is excellent and true to the Beastmen Ghorgon picture in the army book.

Check out the gaping maw on the left leg, the somewhat worried human in it's right claw, the horns, teeth, skull "medallion" and all those strength 6 arms or maybe I should call them appendages. With the stubborn attribute, leadership 10, toughness 6 and the ability to regain wounds this unit must surely prove to be one of the most popular in the Beastmen army (if you have a model for it !). I just don't understand why GW haven't already designed and released a Ghorgon mini yet ?!

Ghorgon Warhammer model

Ghorgon, Gorghon or Gorgon model

Anyway, not to worry, this Ghorgon miniature fits the bill very nicely. It's sculpted by "Miss Painting Group" who are based in Hong Kong and contactable here:- miss_painting@yahoo.com.hk.

If you're desperate to get your hands on it there's actually a "Buy it Now" US $95.90 (or best offer) eBay auction going on right now (it ends on 3rd Dec 2010):-

Ghorgon Miniature Sale

They also have some Cygor models for sale, which also look the part:-

Cygor Miniatures for Sale

They're not cheap but I think they're reasonably priced and where else can you find these miniatures ? The only alternative I can think of is a Warhammer Giant conversion (which would be fun but it's not everyone's cup of tea and I'd be worried about messing it up !).

Cygor Miniature Recruit # 2 !

You spend all day looking out across a Warhammer battlefield for a Cygor and then, when you least expect it (on the train home), two come out of the woods at once !

Trollhoer owner of the Troll Tales blog (http://trollhoer.blogspot.com/ - now added to my blogroll !) alerted my attention to this one. It's actually advertised as a Cyclops but it would make a decent Cygor too. It can be found at the Maelstrom Games shop :-

http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=mae_mae_bnb_mon_002_000#

or, if you prefer eBay... Maelstrom Games Limited on eBay

I'm not certain how large this miniature is, the suppliers really should stand them against a ruler !  It looks like it's pretty tall though given the relative length of the limbs. It's probably a little bit too Giant-ish for my liking so I prefer the other one I posted yesterday :- Cygor model for Beastmen. However, it's not easy to say when you haven't got the exact measurements so I guess both models pass muster and either will do for now. After all, I only need it to draw the war machine fire while my Minotaurs do the real work ! :)

Talking of Minotaurs, I also found this Minotaur in the Maelstrom Games eBay store and it's not too expensive either for a top quality Lord level model.

Pretty neat heh ?!

PS. Can you tell I have started turning my attention to Beastmen ? Muhahaha !  :D

Cygor Beastmen Army Miniature - Rare Unit

A new Cygor miniature for the Beastmen Army Rare Units - rare indeed !

Games Workshop don't have any Ghorgon or Cygor miniatures out at the moment so we need to look elsewhere. I found this model on eBay by an outfit that also provide decent Ghorgon models (more about that in another post).  I think this miniature is probably the only purpose built Cygor on the market right now, at least I cannot find any others. It is no cheap but it is massive (15 cm tall !) so you're getting quite a neat model for your cash.

Beastmen Battalion Boxed Set released by Games Workshop

A new Warhammer Fantasy Battle Boxed set is released for the new Beastmen Army.

It consists of 40 miniatures (10 Bestigors, 20 Gors and 10 Ungors).

The Battalion is selling for £55 (in the UK) - this represents a pretty impressive saving because individually they would cost £70 so you save over 20%. I suspect it's the same in other regions, I tried to check GW US online but there is no listed price for the box set, although it is in the product catalogue.

Details at Games Workshop under Warhammer Armies > Beastmen > Army Books and Sets.

Edit: (7-March-2010) corrected an error in original post where I said there were 20 Ungors.
Thanks to Erik for spotting my mistake.

Worried about the new Warhammer Beastmen Minotaur Miniatures from GW ?

You might not need to be ! Games Workshop now post photos of lots of their Fantasy Battle and 40k model sprues and these boys don't look anywhere near as muscle bound as the painted ones on the box cover

Ok, they have fearsome back muscles but I think the legs and arms could be toned down a lot if painted differently. I'm beginning to like them a lot more, what do you think ?

GW have posted all the sprues on their site. Find all the sprues pics, miniature photos and prices in the Games Workshop Beastmen product list here

more Beastmen Army Miniature pics - Ungors, Minotaurs, Gors and Bestigor Herds

Another new Warhammer Fantasy Battle release is fast approaching ! Games Workshop have released pictures of the Beastmen in the advance orders section of their site.

I really like the Gors and the Ungors, the Bestigors look ok too but seem a bit too "organised" for my tastes (ie they have "uniform-ish" chainmail, hardened leather armour and similar helms. I imagine all beast units to be a bit more of a rabble). I'm not keen on the Razorgor which I think looks a bit too "spawnish". Apparently, the Razorgor is the bigger cousin of the Tuskgor and can be used in herds or to pull chariots.

You'll find more pics, including the Doombull, Ghorros Warhoof (Centaur Hero), Malagor, Dark Omen and all of the existing "older" range of Beasts of Chaos minis on the GW site here:-

Beastmen Army - New Gor Standard Bearer Miniature Picture and Beastmen Advert

Games Workshop are doing it again ! That is, getting my feral beastial heart pumping, my sweaty beastman claws itching and hooves stamping.

Here is a miniature photo of things to come, this one if the Gor Standard Bearer from, I presume, a future White Dwarf - thanks to Elazar the Glorified for posting this on the Battle Reporter forum Beastmen Army thread.

This is definitely going to be my next Warhammer Army, I have resisted the temptation for too long, I can't wait ! One problem, I only have about three months to paint all my Nauticans !

Beastmen to replace Beasts of Chaos - NEWS and Army Book Cover (Released in February 2010)

A slight shift away from Chaos now Warhammer Fantasy Battle has a Daemons and Warriors of Chaos Army ?

I think we might see more emphasis on feral beasts and less on Chaos manifestations. I suspect all the usual units will be available but a change in approach would help to open the way for Games Workshop to come up with some new unique Beastmen units and army rules. Less chaos worshipping is the way forward - after all, which would you rather share your house with... a Beast of Nurgle Chaos Spawn or a house trained Centigor ? Actually, on reflection, that question isn't as easy to answer as I first thought :)

From Games Workshop online subscription :-

"Incoming! Beastmen -In the dark places of the world, the Beastmen have been gathering in number and in February they will unleash their rage on the Warhammer world with renewed vigour. A feral army of twisted monsters, the Beastmen have inhabitant the dark forests and wild places of the world since such places existed. To lead a Beastmen army is to field vast herds of braying, brutish beasts who worship Chaos in all its forms, and who fight to level the civilised world.

This will be the first time ever that the Beastmen have had their own, completely stand-alone, army list. The forthcoming Warhammer Armies: Beastmen is full of twisted monsters old and new, and an all-new lore of magic. The Beastmen are the original inhabitants of the Old World: in February 2010 they come to reclaim it from the hands of Men."

Beasts of Chaos (Warhammer Army - initial impressions)

The interesting and, I believe, unique attribute of chaos armies is that you can select them from both Hordes of Chaos and Beasts of Chaos. There are restrictions though which, on a quick browse of the Beasts book, appear to relate to which general you choose. The type of general, beast human or daemon, determines the composition of your forces by limiting special unit choices.

As a result of finding this out, I am postponing my Chaos Armies analysis until I have purchased the Hordes of Chaos book (probably next week)

Warhammer Fantasy Battle - Hordes of Chaos & Beasts of Chaos

This is an area of Fantasy Battle somewhat unknown to me, I have one chaos book from a previous edition.

Is anyone habing any success with these armies ? They seem to feature near the bottom of the list of successful armies in the Games Workshop 2007 Grand Tournament.

I'd be very interested to hear about the strengths and/or weaknesses of these armies.

Please leave your comments here.

Thanks,
Sigmar
