White Dwarf Sep 2011 new GW models

New Saurus Oldblood and Chaos Nurgle Lord - from White Dwarf September 2011 (#381)

Looking excellent ! The pics were kindly shared by Hugo from the Battle Reporter Facebook discussion group, where the Oldblood mini news is going down very well indeed.

BTW, I also post all the news on the WFB News Facebook Page so "Like" it if you want to keep up-to-date without having to visit this page to check when it was last updated.

New Chaos Daemon Finecast, Banners and Boxed set

New Games Workshop finecast standards / banners, characters and a 40k "Battle force" (Booo...) or rather a Fantasy Battle Battalion (Hurray !) boxed set.

Some new releases from Games Workshop; mainly new finecasts of previous plastic models and a decent boxed set bargain. You can find them all under the GW 40k Release page:-

games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat440161a&rootCatGameStyle=

There's not a lot to say about these really but I'll give it a ashot :) ...

The Lord of Change looks as cool as ever as does the Changeling, I think the Herald of Tzeentch on a Disc might be a new miniature because I don't recognize him/her ("it" ?!) and the new Finecast banners/standards look very cool. I do have a bit of a criticism about the banners, they need to show them with a miniature so you can see the relative size (otherwise you have to look at the other unit pics on the website to see how big they are). I suspect Daemon players will already know how large the stds are but I don't play as or against Daemons - they're not allowed on my battle board :)

BTW, for anyone new to Games Workshop and Warhammer it's worth pointing out that if you think you're going to play Fantasy Battle and 40K (booo...) you might as well collect Daemons because you can use the same models in both games (with a few exceptions).

Ed. : I think this is worth noting from someone who's been shopping this very day at GW, The Herald is new and the Blood Thirster is great !

A comment from one of the Warhammer Battle Reporter Facebook members :-

Rob H: "Yeah, they never made a herald on disk for demons, they had an champion on disk for WoC, but this is definalty new. Even the bottom part of the disk is perry cool looking. Also Finecast Bloodthirster is the best ever, approx same price as the metal BUT no pinning, doesnt way a ton, and doesnt break."  (thanks to Rob)

All of the below are Finecast, check out the GW link above for a lot more pics and details.

New Chaos Nurgle Models for Fantasy Battle

Warhammer Forge release nine new Nurgle miniatures in the shape of Chaos Trolls, Chaos Ogres and, errr... Chaos Toads ?!

I'm not much into the Toads to be frank (the modeling is good but they're just not really my "cup of pus tea"). I personally prefer the Trolls and I really like the Ogres which are excellent. Loads more pics on the new Warhammer Forge page at Forgeworld.co.uk:-

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters

They have even come out with some experimental profiles and rules for for Plague Toads and the Bile Trolls which is a very nice touch (see above link). The surrounding fluff is great too (especially for the devoted Chaos worshipper who likes to talk filthy !)

from the Plague Toad rules "...Plague-Toads, also known as rot-eaters, and sewerkin; mutated, toad-like bags of brackish filth and pus whose wide maws can swallow a man whole." - [Ed. Nice !]

They are all multi-part resign models and all three Ogres have inter-changeable weapons and heads.

(BTW, my limited understanding of resin models is that they are not quite plastic but definitely not metal. I believe this makes them cheaper than metal, it means they don't have to spend a lot of money on expensive plastic molding machines used for mass production but the models themselves are not as robust [so don't throw them against the wall when you lose !] - that's my layman's understanding of it anyway. Please correct me if I'm wrong).

New Daemons of Chaos Champion

Awesome Chaos Daemons miniature hero or champion (25mm base) by Avatars of War

This is one hell of a good sculpt. In fact just about all of the Avatars of War miniatures are brilliant. They specialize in lords and hero level characters and they do a heck of a good job at it - or in this case a "hell" of a good job :D

Chaos Familiar miniatures from Citadel are back ! Thanks GW :)

I used to own 8 of these Chaos Familiars from Games Workshop and they are brilliant !

In my foolishness, I sold my little fellas on eBay (I think some High Elf mage must have gotten into my brain when I was feeling weak !) I have regretted it ever since, not because I'm a daemons collector (although I might become a Warriors of Chaos collector soon) but because these minis make awesome models for dioramas (and even battlefield scenery !)

Check this sample of 6 of the 18 miniatures available in 2 bitz packs...(awesome !)

You can find the whole range (currently available on advance order) here:-

Kairos Fateweaver, Oracle of Tzeentch and his new Blood Crusher buddies warp into Warhammer

Games Workshop have allowed the Gates of Chaos to open once more, tut, tut ! Where's Teclis when you need him ?

GW have just announced some new Citadel daemon miniatures. All plastic Blood Crushers (in boxed sets of 3) and the Keeper of the Destiny Scrolls, he who was cast into the Well of Eternity for, well... almost an eternity - Kairos Fateweaver himself (the first Kairos model GW have produced)

As GW rightly say, Kairos is likely to prove fairly popular and you can expect to see quite a lot of him on the Warhammer battlefield. After all, with all the 6 Tzeentch spells under his hat (or cowl) and the ability to choose (yes choose) 8 spells from all of the lores of Battle magic he's a pretty accomplished wizard ! Add to that the ability to fly, cause terror (unsurprisingly) and with a 3+ ward save the enemy will have his/her/it's work cut out.

The miniature is extremely cool too and is now available on advance order:-

(you'll find pics and sprue photos of the Blood Crushers on the above link aswell)

Excellent New Changeling Chaos Demon Model

One of the best recent Games Workshop miniatures - in my opinion (the best Daemon mini at least)

I love him (GW, say it's a him) but who's to say it's not a her or... maybe just an it ! The mini is out on 7th August, you can advance order it now:-

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1491876&prodId=prod860018a

"The Changeling is a cunning trickster and delights in wreaking havoc upon his foes - sowing confusion and misdirection wherever he goes. Confronted by his antics, enemy heroes find themselves bewildered, unable to tell friend from foe. When confusion is at its thickest, he strikes" (GW)

New Battle Magic Cards for Daemons of Chaos

Games Workshop just announced an 18 card set for the Daemon Lores of Nurgle, Tzeentch and Slaanesh (6 cards each)

I guess they'll be doing it for all of the armies to complement the 8th edition WFB Magic cards. They look quite polished.

You can get them on advance order from GW now.

New Pink Horrors, Daemon Prince and Seekers of Slaanesh

Games Workshop have just announced the new Chaos Daemon miniatures are now available on advance order (they are released on 7th August).

They are suitable for both Fantasy and 40k (boo.. !)

Daemons are not really my cup of tea, I can't really bring myself to like anything that wants to eat my soul. Anyway, bias aside, the models look pretty neat. The Seekers are quite delicately sculpted with a lot of fine detail.  I think everyone has seen the Prince by now so enough said. The horrors appear suitably maniacal. The pink horror's standard bearer is quite a stand out model.

There are loads of pics on the GW advance order page, with the all important sprue photos !

New Daemons of Chaos Miniature Photos

Changeling, Bloodcrusher of Khorne, Slaaneshi Seekers, Daemon Prince, Fateweaver and Chaos Horrors. I'm impressed, they all look good in my opinion, esp the Changeling, Bloodcrusher and Seekers (The Daemon Prince looks a bit 40k-ish, hopefully there is a more WFB variant)

I'm not sure which models are plastic and which are metal.

New Warhammer Daemons of Chaos Miniatures being released

Games Workshop have just announced some new Citadel Chaos Daemon miniatures for Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40k.

It doesn't say exactly which miniatures are being released but it sounds like they'll be out in August with more details on the GW Website in July and in August's edition of White Dwarf.

I wasn't expecting any new Daemon releases so this comes as quite a pleasant surprise.

Here's the announcement in full...

Incoming! Daemons

In August, the immortal legions of the Ruinous Powers - the Chaos Daemons - will pour forth once more from the Realm of Chaos to drown the Warhammer world and the galaxy of the 41st Millennium beneath a tide of blood and destruction. Even now, mystics are assailed by nightmarish visions of horror and death, the fractured minds of madmen echo with sibilant whispers, and the doomed clutch symbols of their weak gods closer to them.

A host of incredible new Citadel miniatures for both Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Daemons armies and Warhammer Daemons of Chaos armies will soon be released upon mortal battlefields. All will be revealed in July here on the Games Workshop website and in August's issue of White Dwarf magazine, so keep an eye out for more information.

Some very unusual and unqiue Fantasy Miniature sculpts for use in Warhammer Battle

I found the below seller on eBay today while looking for Nautican type miniatures. They sell normal Warhammer but also have some very different, wierd and wacky sculpts, especially for Chaos models. Some of them are extremely large !

Unique Chaos and Daemon miniature sculpts

I forgot to mention it when it happened but about a month ago a very good value Vampire Counts army was bought through the eBay adverts on this site for about $177.50 US. The metal Vampire figures and Black Knights alone are probably worth that. In case you're interested:-
It just goes to show what you can get if you shop around on eBay and manage to get lucky (it looks like the winner was only having to bid against 3 others).

Games Workshop's free Games Day Miniature for 2010

A rather excellent Warhammer Fantasy Battle Chaos Sorcerer miniature.

It will be the same model for GW Games Day for all countries.

It's obviously most suitable for a Warriors of Chaos Army but I suspect you could find a place for it in a Daemons of Chaos or even a Beasts of Chaos (soon to become Beastmen army)

new Khorne Daemons of Chaos Prince & Herald miniatures from Forge World

Check out the awesome 3D 360 degree rotating view . I wish all miniature companies presented all their new models like that !

Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald

Designed by Simon Egan and Will Hayes, the Daemon Prince model stands 3 ¾ inches (9 ½ CM) tall. This brutal beast would be perfectly usable as a Daemon Prince or Greater Daemon either for Warhammer Fantasy Battle or Warhammer 40,000, as can the Herald which is a characterful and (not to mention gore-splattered) large and armoured Bloodletter in form and can be seen Here:-

The Khorne Daemon Prince and Herald is available to pre-order now for release from 26th of May.

Wow ! Daemons of Chaos Miniatures or, in fact, any Warhammer miniatures don't come much better than this...

The Nurgle Daemon Prince and Herald is £39.15, so I guess this one might be about the same

the best Warhammer Fantasy Army ever seen ?

An awesome converted Daemons of Chaos Warhammer Army

You have to admire the commitment, effort and skill in putting together this army. Warhammer Armies don't come much more inventive or much better looking than this...

"...took me nearly a year just to figure out how to do it, and then about six months of work to actually execute. But the results exceeded even my expectations. "

Jody Tucker

Jody Tucker's Cult of Fire:

"The Cult of Fire is a Daemons of Chaos army for Fantasy. Originally, it was going to be a mixed Daemon/Mortal army when Hordes of Chaos was still legit. Then the Daemon codex came out and split the two armies. At first, I thought the project was dead. But I managed to cobble together a fire theme from the new Daemons. The resulting army is pretty solid, gameplay-wise. I played it as a paper proxy army for a few months while they were under construction.

The fire spirits are Horrors of Tzeench (I call them Cinderkin), and the wizard is a Herald of Tzeench. The Warriors with the flaming skulls are being used as Plaguebearers for now, with the big crucible monster acting as a Herald of Nurgle. The burning Dire Wolves are Flesh Hounds, and the Horde Acolyths are Flamers (my buddy calls them the flaming jai-alai players). The fireball flinging wizard on a flying fire-steed is a Herald of Tzeench on a disk. That was a great Gamezone model with a good deal of conversion. But the big guy on the firebreathing bronze bull was the biggest challenge. He’s a Herald of Khorne on a Juggernaut, frankensteined out of about five different models.

The glowing hearts of the models were made from a keychain light mounted into the base. I sculpted all of the torsos, heads and other fiery bits, took a mold and cast them in clear resin. Then I assembled them around the LEDs and used paints and inks to give it the fiery colors. I ran fiber-optics into the eye sockets and as a trail of sparks behind some of the fireballs. This took me nearly a year just to figure out how to do it, and then about six months of work to actually execute. But the results exceeded even my expectations.

My next step is to make this army GW legal so I can take it to an official GT, so I’m probably going to do a big model when the new plastic Daemon Prince is released.
"
