The Sea Creatures re-Group...

Fan-made WFB Army pdf

Storm clouds are gatherin',
'n the waves are a crashin',
the Old Worlde will weep,
when they come from the deep...

Part of an old Empire sailor's song foretelling the rise of the ocean dwellers.

The time is coming, follow their ascent from the depths...

Name a Warhammer Special Character

A mini Fantasy Battle competition for my Nautican (unofficial) Warhammer Army project:-

name this special character and I'll use the name in the final army book pdf (just post your suggestions here).

I'm working on the Nautican Army pdf again and will be making quite a lot of changes to try to balance the army for the new 8th edition rules. I have also ordered a few new miniatures like the one here. So, for a bit of fun, I thought I'd give my readers the opportunity to name this miniature (which is actually a Slithe Queen from Reapermini.com).

I haven't quite decided whether the miniature will be a Lord or Hero level miniature but it's likely to have a high armour save (due to all that natural plate armour !) and probably a high number of attacks - thanks to all of those arms :)  Because it looks so, errr... "untamed" I might include something in the rules to reflect that too.

I'm happy to accept humorous names or any ocean / sea themed names or maybe just names which are freakishly alien to the surface world !

The green coloured mini pics were kindly supplied by Brandt Lippincott (Facebook) and show off his excellent painting skills - thanks very much Brandt.

Brandt is a member of the Warhammer Battle Reporters Facebook group.

Nautican Warhammer Army Competition - design an army list for me !

Select a legal 3,000pt Nautican Fantasy Battle Army and I'll use it in battle next weekend.

Hi folks, I'm battling the vile, verminous furry critters (ie. Skaven) next weekend with my brave and noble Nauticans :)

It's a 3,000 pt battle and I'm offering you the chance to see how any army f your choice would perform on the field of battle.

If you're interested in selecting a Nautican Army for me then please post a list by commenting in this post by 2pm GMT on Monday and I will use the army in my next battle on Saturday June 5th.

If more than one army is posted I will select the one I think has the best chance of success. I'd be pleased if even one army was posted !

You can find the Nautican army pdf (which can be viewed online or downloaded to your pc) on the front page of the Nautican Army blog - just click the army book cover.

I don't want to bore you with the Nautican Army but...

I've started to assemble and paint the Nautican miniatures. I'm going to be posting all my modeling updates on the Nautican Warhammer Fantasy Army Design Notes blog (please visit and follow my progress).

Here's a taster of the Octobipods and Weresharks (which were very easy to assemble, unlike the Giant Crabs !)

(click to enlarge pics in a new window)

BTW, I'm posting all the miniature sizes and assembly notes too in case anyone else is interested in collecting the army. Please do, I could really use someone's opinion and it would be fun to compare notes. So far, despite lots of comments and general interest, nobody at all (other than me) is actually mustering an army :(

Thanks guys (and damsels !), Sigmar.

PS. please cast your votes on the design notes blog so I can get a better idea of your opinion of the army.

Nautican Warhammer Fantasy Army promotion video

for a bit of fun and to garner some more support, I put together a Nautican Fantasy Army promotion showing some of the best artwork and miniatures.

It's on YouTube so hopefully, the Army list will get some more visitors and playtesting feedback.

Nautican (unofficial) Warhammer Fantasy Army PDF update

The Nautican Warhammer Battle army has been updated to draft 5.0

Important: I have only updated the pdf to draft 5.0 . The Nautican Army list blogsite still contains draft 4.0. I will update this when I can.

(click army book cover to go to the Nautican Army website where you can download the army book)

The changes are mainly balancing. There are no major new units or rules just tweaks. Several rules have been simplified and some special rules removed.

draft 5.0 change summary

The major changes have been to core units and magic items. Sandgangers have been made more vulnerable and there are restrictions on the use of Crest Riders and Sting Rays.

I have reduced the number of special rules, notably for Coral Hunters, Crest Riders, Interceptors. I also plan to make the army list less "wordy" but I have more work to do on that.

The pdf is now 63 pages rather than 66 due to the removal and simplification of rules.

We're desperate for help with play testing and we're always interested in friendly, constructive feedback here:-

The new unofficial free Warhammer Army PDF - The Nauticans is now available !

Finally, the Nauticans have made landfall in search of a new home in coastal waters away from the Chaos infested deep - it is inevitable that they will come face to face with the surface dwellers of the Warhammer world !

We made it folks, thanks to a lot of help from a lot of people (50+) in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle community.

The 1st PDF draft has been upploaded and can be viewed online or downloaded by clicking the above logo.

This draft release is to encourage some play testing and feedback. We think we're almost there but I suspect there are some "broken" bits that need addressing hence we're asking for YOUR comments and suggestions in the Battle Reporter Fantasy Forum below (click the logo):-

An Octobipod ! Come to my Nautican Army my precious !

I couldn't believe it when I stumbled upon this miniature, it's almost purpose built for the Nautican Army !

Well, I need to be practical when it comes to designing the army list with available miniatures in mind and this model is spot on so expect another change to the Nautican Army to get this miniature in there somewhere.

My first thought is adapting or replacing the Lobstrosity Unit (which now have Weresharks as "competition"). I'm still thinking about it and because I procrastinate more than an octopus with a full stomach this could take a while...

I'm so excited I need a beer !

9th July 09 - I've just had another thought, I could include this mini as a new Special Character - I'll get back to you soon.

The biggest Giant Miniature ever produced ?!

Miniature News: a huge (!) metal Giant mini recently released by Black Scorpion.

This baby stands at 18.5 cm tall and is perfectly proportioned for what I have planned for it (ie. inclusion in my Sea Based Army)

Nautican Warhammer Fantasy Army - Draft 3.1

Minor rule changes to Special Units, Guardian of Time & Magic Items

I didn't want to change the army after draft 3.0 but I found loads of little things I wasn't happy with. Mainly the text and rules explanations which have been simplified. Also, a few minor rule changes (see the change summary on the Nautican site).

I am working on the pdf now (once the pdf is online the rules will not be changing until we have plenty of feedback and battle reports from you ! Hopefully....?)

Below is some of the fantastic new artwork that Gareth Pannan sent me (I've added it to the site already and it will all feature in the final pdf). Thanks Gareth.

    Nautican Warhammer Fantasy Army List

Loads of updates over the past few days, new character "mounts" (if you can call them that !), new magic items, tripoon battery unit added and lots of tweaks.

Thanks for being patient everyone, I only have 1 special character left to add and then it's fully updated to draft 3.0 and ready for playtesting.

I have new artwork and fluff coming soon but it will not affect the rules. Please try the army out in battle and let me know how it goes in the Battle Reporter forum.

Nautican Warhammer Army - new Army Wide Special Rules

The Nautican Fantasy Battle army is getting a major rules revision

Recent playtesting suggests tha army is significantly under powered
(7 battles and 7 major defeats or massacres).

None of the individual units look particularly "broken" so we have decided to give the army a boost in the form of a new army wide special rule "Sea Creature Origins".

All the details are on the Nautican site (see the link at the top of the page)

If you;re interested in contributing ideas or fedding back battle playtest then please join our forum (see link at the top right of page).

Note: the Nautican Army is an unofficial not-for-profit hobby creation and willbe turned into a free pdf once it's "approved" by the Warhammer community. The Nautican Army is not endorsed in anyway by Games Workshop (but hey, if your friends don't mind you using it, then join in the fun !)

Big Nautican Army update this weekend

The Nauticans (unofficial) Warhammer Army online list is getting some new units

Let me introduce you to one of them... the Crest Riders (or "Cresters"):-
The Nautican army's fast cavalry equivalents (although they only get one "Wave charge" per battle but it does cause impact hits !)

keep an eye on my Nautican Warhammer Army list over the next week.

Artwork created for the Nautican army by Gareth Pannan (who can be contacted through the Shadow Forge website [shadowforge.com.au] and is available for a modest fee. Be sure to check out Gareth's miniature sculpts, he created the Laughing Monk range in the "Products" section).

The Nautican Army gets an awesome colour book cover

a superb Warhammer Fantasy Battle book cover for the unofficial Nautican Army

Gareth Pannan, a talented artist in Australia has kindly completed a colour book cover for the Nautican army. In the foreground, emerging from the waves, are some of the army units. In the background, the King of the Seas rises into the "surface dwellers" world.

The army will be undergoing a make-over this weekend so check back on Sunday 8th March

I will post the report on my battle reports hub & the Nautican Army site (playtesting area)

As soon as it's online I'll let you know.
