Warhammer Fantasy Battles League - Campaigns & Alliances being added

I'm adding a new Campaigns and Alliances feature to my Warhammer Fantasy Online Leagues website - WFBattles.com (going live soon!)

For anybody who is unfamiliar with WFBattles it's a new, completely FREE (with no catches !) interactive Warhammer Fantasy website that will enable users to:-
  • Record their battles, comments and links (to battle reports / videos)
  • Compare their performance against fellow gamers
  • Create their own leagues for up to 20 friends/club buddies
  • Check out stacks of Warhammer army stats
  • Participate in and view various user polls and
  • Join an alliance and fight in a campaign (coming soon)
The new Campaign feature allows the user to choose between 5 different alliances:-
  • the Order of Law
  • the Chaos Pact
  • the Ravening Hordes
  • the Rebel Realms and
  • the Mercenaries for Hire
Each Alliance consists of 5 Warhammer armies, any battles you play with those armies contributes to the success of the alliance in the campaign which is shown in the Campaign page (to be added soon).

You are awarded campaign points according to your success on the battlefield, "war spoils" for your contribution to your alliance's overall number of battles, "victory points" for your alliance's final standing and  "honour points" (there is more honour for fighting for alliances with fewer members). Your historic campaign points are recorded in a Campaign Heroes table for everybody to see.

The first campaign will be named "A Time of Foreboding" - a new incursion of chaos threatens the world!

 Here are some screenshots...

The website is still in development but nearing completion so feel free to create an account to try it out.

If you want to keep abreast of the development then you can book mark the Battle Reporter WFBattles forum thread or join the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Reporter Facebook group.

A personal thanks to Red Orc (the Battle Reporter forum member who suggested the idea to me).

Thanks folks,

Sigmar's Warhammer Battle Recorder is now online

My Fantasy Battle recorder and Warhammer league table website is now available.

Battle Recorder Summary

The website collects your battle details, archives them and summarizes the results. You can include links to your websites/blogs or YouTube battle reports and/or add notes to each battle.

Each user is ranked by their performance and the most successful commanders (it could be you!) are shown in the Legends and Hammerers tables. Members can view and download their old battles and search through the archive and read everybody else's.

You can also create your own league for a club competition or just friendlies with your gaming buddies and participate in our polls which rate and rank each army in various ways.

All the battle data is summarized in tables that plainly show which armies are most successful, how they perform against each enemy and their best units, troop types and turn phases.

Simply create a www.wfbattles.com account

This is a test version* so you can add up to 30 pretend battles
(test data will be deleted before "go live").

* The website will "go live" once any reported problems and comments have been addressed.

Sigmar's Battle Recorder website is completely unofficial and is not endorsed by Games Workshop!

Sigmar's WFB Recorder - Add Battle

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the features:-
  • Keeps a historical record of everyone's battles, all the battle details and notes
  • Enables member's to download all their own battle details, notes and links
  • Allows users to link to detailed Battle Reports on other sites or YouTube videos (viewable by all)
  • Allows everyone to search the Battle archive database
  • Summarizes the battle data to show :-

    • The most to least successful armies (ranked by win, draw and loss %)
    • How each army performs against each enemy (ranked by win, draw and loss %)
    • A matrix of which armies are most successful against each other (by wins and/or draws)
    • Each Army's best units (eg. Rare), troop types (eg. Cavalry) and best phase (eg. Magic)

  • Ranks members by

    • Hammerer status - members who are the most successful in battle (top 50 by win %)
    • Legendary status - members with the most number of wins (top 3 rank for each army)
    • Performance of members in each League they have been added to

  • Collates member's profile data and summaries it to show:-

    • Which armies they collect, have painted, want most, love, loathe and fear
    • How they rate each army by rule book, miniatures and army strength in battle

  • Create and manage your own league of up to 20 friends or fellow club gamers

Sigmar's Battle Recorder website - Armies Vs page

On a personal note

I created the site to try to develop my website programming skills and to encourage some more people to join the Battle Reporter forum (hopefully). The site is free to use, there are no catches (or spam - you can "opt in" to receiving email updates if you like).

I used ASP.NET, SQL Server, C# and AJAX to develop the site and it's hosted by SmarterASP.NET (a low cost and efficient web host that I can recommend).

The development was fun, frustrating and rewarding in equal measure. My next project is a miniature upload website to allow users to rate and comment on painters, miniatures and conversions (a bit like Coolminiornot but with more rating options, categories, search options, links to great miniature painters and customize-able slideshows). I'm going to attempt to do it in MVC and JQuery, preferred technologies in my line of work.

Save your Fantasy Battles online and assess your performance in our Warhammer Leagues Website

Warhammer Battle Recorder website

A NEW (unofficial) Warhammer website for assessing your battle performance and that of all the Fantasy Battle Armies

Hi folks, I have been beavering away on a WFB project in recent weeks to try to boost membership of the Battle Reporter forum and to learn some new programming skills.

I have come up with a website that's just about ready for testing although I have quite a few other features I'd like to add before it goes live (see "To be added" footnote).

Note: this is a Battle Reporter Forum members only site - so please join us*

* the whole point of the project is to boost membership before the forum dies. Membership, like 99% of all forums, is completely free and there are no catches whatsoever - we just want a few more people in our dwindling community that we have spent 5 years trying to grow!  PS. The forum is a really friendly place to be, we don't suffer people who want to pick a fight or wind other members up. If you're one of those people then please DON'T read on.

If you would like to help test the website (by adding "pretend" battles) then please join the forum and post in the forum link below and I will send you a forum message with your password and username (which will be the same as your forum member name):-

I want to help test Sigmar's Battle Recording Website.

So far, the website will...
  • Add Battle - record friendly and tournament battles of any size for all armies and collect various "battle data" and analyze the performance by Army vs Army (wins, draws, losses) and user.

I have added a few pages for various reports which include:-
  • Armies Vs - How each army performs against each other army, detailed by individual armies and summarized in an Army vs Army matrix.
  • Reckoning (War Stats) - including the most effective Unit Types (eg. Rare), Troop Types (eg. Monsters) and Phase (eg. Combat), most frequent opponents, wins against and losses to each army. How lucky the player thought he was and how much fun they had :-)
  • Hammerers - The top 50 players (by win%) overall and for each army.
  • Legends - The top 3 ranked players per army by total battles won (irrespective of win%).
  • Myths - ie. players who have reported a 100% overall win record (these players are excluded from the above reports; anybody who hasn't lost at least once hasn't been in a real battle !)

Here are the relevant screen shots (note: I submitted random battles so you can ignore the numbers)...

Sigmar's WFB Recorder - Reckoning (War Stats) page

Sigmar's WFB Recorder - Hammerers page

Sigmar's WFB Recorder - Legends page

Sigmar's WFB Recorder - Myths page

To be added:-
  • Your summary Battle Notes for everyone to view and rate and for your records *
  • A link to your Battle Report on the Battle Reporter forum **
  • Ranked Profile Stats so you can compare your performance with your mates
  • A fully searchable list of battles
  • Polls eg. most wanted, collected, painted, loved, loathed and feared armies
  • Private Leagues so you can create a league for your club and buddies
  • Separate reporting for tournaments / friendly and by Battle Pts Value
* this is already in place but switched off until I work out a way to catch swear words so i know who to bash with Sigmar's Hammer :-)
** this is also complete (I think!) pending my own testing.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Forum News

Battle Reporter Forum reporting...

It seems people have recently been registering on the Battle Reporter forum but not receiving their activation emails. I think this is probably my fault for sending out too many updates recently - too much exciting news to share (I'm trying to break the habit) !

Anyway, if you've registered, just check your Junk / Spam folders for the activation email.

That was the Bad.

The Good... We now have no adverts on our forum, I paid to get rid of the annoying blighters ! :-)

Design a new Special Character for Warhammer Fantasy

If you think you can come up with a balanced, exciting new WFB Special Character then read on.

Number 16 of the Master Tactician competitions is all about constructing a completely new, original and exciting character for Fantasy Battle games.

The special character must be a balanced addition to an existing army and can include it's own special rules, magic items / spells (your own design or rulebook items), mounts and other equipment options.

The more background fluff and pics (eg. your own artwork or mini photos) the better.

The Battle Reporter forum members will vote for the winner.

The prize is just the respect of our humble Warhammer community :-) and some forum reputation. Please post your entries below:-

Design a Warhammer Fantasy Battle Scenario Competition

A new Fantasy Battle Master Tactician contest has started in the Battle Reporter forum - all entries are welcome.

Here's the lowdown...

Design an original and exciting Warhammer Fantasy Battle scenario for 2 players.

Pretend you are hosting a Warhammer Fantasy Battle and 2 friends have asked you to come up with something a bit different to the usual pitched battle, a battle as original and enjoyable as you can come up with. Assume the gamers have up to, but no more than, 2,500 pts worth of miniatures to play with; the points values per army don't have to be the same but the overall battle should be balanced with an equal opportunity of success for each gamer.

The scenario should be compelling, exciting and result in a fair, competitive contest and a memorable game. The battle should also be playable by any Warhammer Army.

Feel free to include any manner of battle background fluff, victory conditions, limitations, points bonuses, battlefield set up maps etc. but keep in mind that it should be easy to play and not overly complex - members of this forum will get to vote on their favourite scenario.

That's it guys, good luck. Please include all of the details in a single post - one battle scenario per forum member. The winner's battle scenario will be posted on the Battle Reporter Blog.

FAQ for Warhammer Beginners - can you help us complete it ?

New starters to Warhammer Fantasy Battle usually have a lot of questions and we'd like your help trying to answer them :- Fantasy Battle Beginner FAQs.

Shaggoth vs Necrosphinx Battle photo
Below are the initial questions :-

1) Armies with the Most "Character"
2) Army you most enjoy taking into Battle
3) Armies with the "Best" Miniatures
4) Easiest Armies to Paint
5) Easiest Armies to use in Battle
6) Enemy you least enjoy fighting against
7) Most Collected Armies
8) Most Enjoyable Armies to Collect

We're also completing a template for every single Warhammer Army book which is going to give a current overview of the army, a summary of it's characteristics, it's general strengths and weaknesses and thus who the army might appeal to.

If you'd like to get involved please complete the above polls and, if you want to get more involved, check out the Warhammer Army Comparison Template here, and volunteer to help with one or more of the armies.

Thanks folks,
Sigmar

Best Magic Item is a Dispel Scroll

Dispel scrolls were viewed by some as essential in 7th edition tournaments and even though 8th edition Warhammer rules limit you to one, it seems that the humble scroll hasn't lost it's appeal in Fantasy Battles.

Here are the magic items* ranked in descending order of % of members voting for that item.
