Warhammer Orcs and Goblins - Goblin Wolf Chariot or Orc Boar Chariot ?

Another "in a nutshell" post...

There are some quite difficult choices to be made when it comes to selecting the special units for an Orc & Goblin army. If you're interested in taking a chariot then read on...

If you're fighting an enemy you expect to be able to charge or High Elves who always strike first then chariots can be a good choice. That is, providing you use them sensibly, ie keep them away from missile fire and high strength enemies (str7 attacks can destroy your chariot with a single wounding blow !)

Now, back to the point of this thread. Take a gobbo chariot for 60 points or an orc one for 80 points ? The answe is...

Take an orc chariot for 80 points and pay another 5 for the extra Orc to make a crew of 3.

Why ?

Your chariot needs to rout skirmishers, light cavalry and low quality troops in the 1st turn, after that it's ineffective.

The Boar Chariot has Tusker charge (+2 str on the charge - the same as a lance !) and it has Orcs with choppas (+1 str in the first round). These coupled with D6 + 1 str 5 hits make for a powerful 1st round attack - just make sure you're the one charging !

For 20 less points the goblin wolf chariot is bad value for money.

Take those angry boars into battle instead of the whining wolves !

Note: boar chariot also T5 and W4 in contrast to the wolf chariot which is much more vulnerable to normal bowfire with T4 and W3 !
