The Araby Army - a Warhammer Fantasy Book pdf (unofficial and not endorsed by Games Workshop)

Araby is a superb 93 page Warhammer Fantasy Battle Army pdf by M4cR1II3n (author of the Kislev army book and a Battle Reporter forum member).

The quality of this book is absolutely top notch, even better than the Kislev book !

Araby Army pdf & discussion on Battle Reporter forum

The themed parchment presentation makes it look like a Games Workshop official product (which it isn't). There is a wealth of Araby background (including a history, timeline, map, city descriptions, Araby tribes, and a truly stunning bestiary).

I have not yet delved into the army list in great detail but from what I've seen thus far the rules look to be as good a quality as the presentation.

Thoroughly recommended and well worth your printer ink !

new Kislev Warhammer Fantasy Army Book pdf Released (unofficial and not endorsed by Games Workshop)

A new unofficial fan made Fantasy Army Book pdf for Warhammer Battle.

One of the industrious Battle Reporter Forum members has come up with an excellent new army book. He's still fine tuning the list and has more to add but it's already a beautifully presented 95 pages !

5 Lord level characters, 6 heroes, 6 core units, 5, special and 3 rare, over 40 magic items and loads of supporting background.

For details and discussion:-

Congrats to our forum member M4cR1II3n, he's done a superb job so far.

I don't want to bore you with the Nautican Army but...

I've started to assemble and paint the Nautican miniatures. I'm going to be posting all my modeling updates on the Nautican Warhammer Fantasy Army Design Notes blog (please visit and follow my progress).

Here's a taster of the Octobipods and Weresharks (which were very easy to assemble, unlike the Giant Crabs !)

(click to enlarge pics in a new window)

BTW, I'm posting all the miniature sizes and assembly notes too in case anyone else is interested in collecting the army. Please do, I could really use someone's opinion and it would be fun to compare notes. So far, despite lots of comments and general interest, nobody at all (other than me) is actually mustering an army :(

Thanks guys (and damsels !), Sigmar.

PS. please cast your votes on the design notes blog so I can get a better idea of your opinion of the army.

Excellent Ogre Kingdoms Tactica and Army Review by Randroid on Waaagh Cast

For a superb round up of Ogre Kingdom Army tactics check out Randroid's Ogre Army Book  review on episode 28 of the Waaagh Cast podcast.

I have only just discovered this podcast, it's very impressive, there is a wide variety of top quality content (not only Orcs and Goblins !) and it's presented in a very friendly "buddy to buddy" way.

Randroid (from the Battle Reporter forum and Ogre Stronghold) told me about it because he was interviewed on Ogre Tactics and Army Selection (his interview begins about 26 mins after the start of Episode 28 - copy below link into your browser). It's quite a long interview and he really gets to show off his experience offering some interesting insights into Ogres and why he doesn't always opt for the more common army selections).

waaaghcast.blogspot.com/2010/01/episode-28-ogre-kingdoms-army-review.html

I plan to listen to these Waaagh Casts while I paint up my Nautican army.

I've also added the Waaagh Cast to the Battle Reporter forum allies blogroll.

New Black Library Website + free Warhammer Desktop Wallpapers

Games Workshop's Warhammer fiction publisher The Black Library (BlackLibrary.com) has launched a new website for all their 40,000 and Fantasy Battle publications.

It's an excellent site, really easy to navigate and tidy.

I didn't realise there were so many Warhammer Fantasy novels now, there's 38 of them (plus 7 Time of Legends novels !). The book covers alone make me want to collect them, the Time of Legend Posters are superb.

For people not into the Fantasy Warhammer World there are a whopping 70 Warhammer 40k books and 15 based on Horus Heresy.

There are also 10 free Warhammer themed desktop wallpapers (to fit various screen resolutions that can be downloaded for free - such as the one below)

Want to buy a fully painted Warhammer Army on eBay ?

Expertly painted "tournament winning" Lizardmen army with magnetized bases

Some lucky eBay buyer picked up this bargain the other day from the Fantasy Battle Reports hub. It goes to show that it's worth keeping an eye on those eBay auctions, especially if you have something specific in mind. Eg. you don't fancy painting your own army or you simply don't have the time.  He paid $414 for a fully painted magnetized army worth about $310 - not a bad deal !

Warhammer Miniature Painting Competition

They don't have to be Games Workshop models although we do favour Fantasy Battle miniatures (you can post 40k miniatures if you really have to !)

If you think you can do better than the below competition winning painting / modeling photos then you might like to join our latest painting competition.

The only prize on offer is respect, a permanent pic of your miniature in the forum (until the next competition winner), some reputation points from the forum and the appreciation of our forum members.

If you're interested:- post photos of your "yet to be painted" miniatures here (in the Battle Reporter forum)

BTW, the Battle Reporter forum is free and friendly and we don't spam you (we have a newsletter ocassionally but not often, maybe once per 6 weeks). There's nothing whatsoever in it for us except the chance to get a thriving Warhammer community together.

The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Reports Hub is back in business !

I'm posting Warhammer Battle Reports on the Fantasy Battle Hub again

Now I'm a bit less tied up with the Nauticans - waiting for feedback from the community - I thought it would be a good time to resume battle reporting on 2d6.blogspot.com.

I'll be adding a few video reports first because we don't have many on there yet. Then I'll be searching out some newer reports featuring the more recently updated races like Warriors of Chaos, Lizardmen, Dark Elves and Skaven.

I'm also planning to restructure the site a bit to make it easier to find your way around. The best thing to do if you're looking for something specific like an army unit or Warhammer rule is to use the search in the top right of the page.

Anyway, I've just posted a 2 part, 21minute video battle here:-

Bretonnians vs Vampires (Video Battle - 2,250 pts)

I have to say that the video narrator is a credit to the game, he's very accommodating to his foe !

Skaven Army Errata and FAQ pdfs Released by Games Workshop

GW recently released a Skaven FAQ / Errata pdf to cover rule changes (errata) and clarifications / interpretations (faq).

GW do this for all their Fantasy Battle armies sometime after their release following feedback from the Warhammer community.

Nautican Warhammer Fantasy Army promotion video

for a bit of fun and to garner some more support, I put together a Nautican Fantasy Army promotion showing some of the best artwork and miniatures.

It's on YouTube so hopefully, the Army list will get some more visitors and playtesting feedback.

Beastmen Battalion Boxed Set released by Games Workshop

A new Warhammer Fantasy Battle Boxed set is released for the new Beastmen Army.

It consists of 40 miniatures (10 Bestigors, 20 Gors and 10 Ungors).

The Battalion is selling for £55 (in the UK) - this represents a pretty impressive saving because individually they would cost £70 so you save over 20%. I suspect it's the same in other regions, I tried to check GW US online but there is no listed price for the box set, although it is in the product catalogue.

Details at Games Workshop under Warhammer Armies > Beastmen > Army Books and Sets.

Edit: (7-March-2010) corrected an error in original post where I said there were 20 Ungors.
Thanks to Erik for spotting my mistake.

Will Warhammer Orcs and Goblins be split into an Orc Army Book and a Goblin Army Book ?

A recent Games Workshop announcement had me thinking that the Orcs and Goblins might become two separate Fantasy Battle armies.

GW announced on the weekend (28th Feb 2010) that there is some exciting news coming in April about some Orcs and Goblins developments being released in May.

Rumour has it that there are some new boxed sets coming out for Boar Riders and other Orc units. I'm fairly sure this is what the announcement is all about and that the part metal Boar Boys boxed sets are being updated to all plastic. Indeed there are rumours that mounted units in other armies are also going the same way (hurray !).

I was wondering if this could be a prelude to something bigger. After all, GW have been suggesting that a new army list is in development (whether it's 40k or Fantasy or both we don't know yet).

I think that dividing the current O&G army into two might be one of the easiest and most cost effective ways for GW to make new money by building on an existing concept. They could bring out a few new "specialist" greenskin units or army wide rules to spice things up and a lot of people would probably welcome the development because they could field two new armies with minimal investment. Such a change might also encourage people who brought the Skull Pass set to build out their goblinoid armies.

Also, it would not break anything in terms of fluff which certainly wouldn't need to change much and Jervis Johnson himself pointed out that they need to be careful with all new releases to ensure they fit in with the current Warhammer worlds. In fact, it might even be possible to retain the old army book and also release new Orc and Goblin specific ones.

However, I should point out that Jervis also suggested new unexpected things from new developments...

"...we also think it's important to keep on trying to surprise you with unexpected new things that aren't designed as part of an existing army." (Jervis in White Dwarf WD 363 March 2010)

And while separate army books for Orcs and Goblins might be a surprise but could not really be described as  "...new things that aren't designed as part of an existing army."

He did however also say that you can expect to be able to use all your existing models in any new army development. So, you never know, I think it's certainly a possibility and I wouldn't be surprised at all. Hmmm...

I've kicked off a topic in the Battle Reporter forum about it :-

Splitting the Orcs and Goblins Fantasy codex into 2 separate army lists

Feel free to add your comments.

Games Workshop are working on a new Warhammer army (White Dwarf WD363 UK)

In his Standard Bearer column, Jervis Johnson has more or less confirmed that GW are designing a new Warhammer army.

My summary of the column is that there are indeed plans to bring out a new army(armies) and they are already making new miniatures but they are not rushing into a release.

To whet your interest here are some of the quotes:-

"We'd love to add new armies to our games; however, we're going to wait until we're confident that doing so won't compromise support for the armies we already make."

"...we've already started making new things for you to collect - we just haven't got round to adding a whole new army just yet."

"...and hopefully, one day we'll be able to do whole new armies for our games too."

You will need to get White Dwarf and read the whole article to get a feel for the full context in which it is written. In my opinion, this is the first "leak" of info to get the community all "psyched" up for what's to come. The article comes with 4 pictures of 40k units, these are apparently used to emphasize recent-ish developments and GWs commitment to product development and new ideas. I'm not sure if we should read into this that the next new army is likely to be a 40k one or not. I'd like to think that both Fantasy and 40k armies are in development and, indeed, why not ?

Their business model seems to be dependent on cyclical, rolling updates to rule books and army books. I suppose that fitting a new army into this product replacement life cycle could be a little tricky because it will rest resources away from the other development plans. Also, they might be wary that a new army would most probably prove very popular indeed and "take money" from other army renewals.

Anyway, in summary it sounds like excellent news and given that GW seem to start "leaking" breadcrumbs of info about 3 or 4 months or so before the real news begins to emerge, I think we could see something later this year.

Please let it be a new army for Fantasy Battle !
