Cygor, Ghorgon, Jabberslythe - Official GW models

It looks like White Dwarf is show-casing some long and eagerly awaited Beastmen Rare units - hurray :) (Games Workshop finally got around to them!)

From the look of it, the Ghorgon and Cygor are alternative assemblies of the same boxed set (although I could be wrong so don't take my word for it !). I reckon we can expect to see a few more Beastmen armies in future with these new units (which are kind of essential to the Beastmen army and must have have been missed by regular Beastmen players).

The Jabberslythe looks quite similar to the one sculpted by the...
Miniature Painting Group (who also do an excellent Ghorgon and Cygor).

New Mangler Squig Miniature - an awesome model !

A fantastic new Mangler Squig model for the Orcs and Gobbos army - courtesy of MPG

These guys are quick off the mark and offer some great models that Games Workshop just doesn't cater for right now, such as the Jabberslythe, Cygor and Ghorgon miniatures for the Beastmen Army.

I really like the Mangler model, it fits in well with the tongue in cheek (or gobbo in gob !) side of the O&G army - I'm thinking Doom Divers, Fanatics and the infamous Snotling Pump Wagon ! (if it still exists ?) Let's face it, a sense of humour can help when you  field a greenskin army !

Anyway, I haven't got the O&G army book yet so I can't comment on the Squig Mangler unit itself because it was new to the 8th edition army. So, you'll just have to enjoy the pics...

As always, click the images to enlarge them.

Jabberslythe Model !

A custom sculpted Jabberslythe miniature for use with the Beastmen Fantasy Battle army - at last !

There still isn't an official Jabberslythe Warhammer model from Games Workshop so the Miniature Painting Group (MPG) have come up with their own and they'll mold one for you (and paint it if you like).

MPG have also produced a great Cygor model and a really, really great Ghorgon.

MPG don't stop there, they have quite a few other difficult to find miniatures that don't have an official GW version - yet?!

Here are some snippets from the Jabberslythe description in the Beastmen Army book, see for yourself if the sculpt is an accurate representation of the monster, I reckon they've done a pretty good job of it...

"Ungainly and clumsy creatures... they have a thick sticky proboscis-like tongue... rudimentary wings... vile appearance... nightmarish vision... fang-ridged maw... erratic and ungainly flight..."

It's a fairly chunky model standing over 5 inches high, check out the slideshow pic including Count Mannfred for a size comparison. It also has an excellent twisted tree base to represent it's deep, dark forest lair.

Ghorgon Miniature !

Spell it however you want:- Gorgon, Gorghon or the correct Ghorgon, it doesn't really matter it sounds the same and it will still tear the limbs from most of your Warhammer Fantasy enemies :) This model is superb and MASSIVE !

Coming it at almost 14 centimeters this bad boy is going to stand out on the Warhammer battlefield. The modelling is excellent and true to the Beastmen Ghorgon picture in the army book.

Check out the gaping maw on the left leg, the somewhat worried human in it's right claw, the horns, teeth, skull "medallion" and all those strength 6 arms or maybe I should call them appendages. With the stubborn attribute, leadership 10, toughness 6 and the ability to regain wounds this unit must surely prove to be one of the most popular in the Beastmen army (if you have a model for it !). I just don't understand why GW haven't already designed and released a Ghorgon mini yet ?!

Ghorgon, Gorghon or Gorgon model

Anyway, not to worry, this Ghorgon miniature fits the bill very nicely. It's sculpted by "Miss Painting Group" who are based in Hong Kong and contactable here:- miss_painting@yahoo.com.hk.

If you're desperate to get your hands on it there's actually a "Buy it Now" US $95.90 (or best offer) eBay auction going on right now (it ends on 3rd Dec 2010):-

Ghorgon Miniature Sale

They also have some Cygor models for sale, which also look the part:-

Cygor Miniatures for Sale

They're not cheap but I think they're reasonably priced and where else can you find these miniatures ? The only alternative I can think of is a Warhammer Giant conversion (which would be fun but it's not everyone's cup of tea and I'd be worried about messing it up !).

Cygor Beastmen Army Miniature - Rare Unit

A new Cygor miniature for the Beastmen Army Rare Units - rare indeed !

Games Workshop don't have any Ghorgon or Cygor miniatures out at the moment so we need to look elsewhere. I found this model on eBay by an outfit that also provide decent Ghorgon models (more about that in another post).  I think this miniature is probably the only purpose built Cygor on the market right now, at least I cannot find any others. It is no cheap but it is massive (15 cm tall !) so you're getting quite a neat model for your cash.
