Warhammer Painting Contest - Reminder

Three days left to enter our Fantasy Battle, 40k and LOTR painting and modelling competition. Just show us what you plan to paint (you then have a month to paint it) - we have 17 entries so far.

We're accepting entries from 40K and LOTR (although Fantasy Battle or related fantasy type minis are preferred because that's what we're really all about).

The deadline for entering your pre-painted miniature pictures is 24th Feb 2013.

You then have about a month to paint them (by 23rd March) and post pictures of the finished article.

We're accepting 3 entries per person and, if you enter something really special I'll write a post about your minis (with links to your pics / website / blog) on my Uber God-like Painters Miniatures Blog

The winning entries from previous years:-

The winners were: (left-to-right) Guardian_A, Elazar The Glorified, Dims, Jetsam and Teclis.

KILLING BLOW - Tides of Chaos

A new faster, more furious and brutal incarnation of the famous Battle Reporter forum game.

To enter : just post the name of your favourite Warhammer Fantasy unit here.

Every unit gets 15 wounds to start with then members post actions (up to once per day) to increase their unit's chance of survival. The actions are :-

  1. Attack or Defend or
  2. Move Blessing of Khorne, Shield of Tzeentch or Nurgle's Rot or
  3. Cast the spell of the day**
** Manticore Frenzy Monday, Troll Vomit Tuesday, Wulfrik Ambush Wednesday, Throgg Thursday, Festus Friday, Slaughterbrute Saturday and Sigvald's Mirror Sunday.

The rules are a lot simpler than you might think, once you've seen a round or two you'll get the idea.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Forum News

Battle Reporter Forum reporting...

It seems people have recently been registering on the Battle Reporter forum but not receiving their activation emails. I think this is probably my fault for sending out too many updates recently - too much exciting news to share (I'm trying to break the habit) !

Anyway, if you've registered, just check your Junk / Spam folders for the activation email.

That was the Bad.

The Good... We now have no adverts on our forum, I paid to get rid of the annoying blighters ! :-)

The Ugly...(see below)  Sweaty Betty, our Female Ogre Mascot for the Killing Blow game :-)

Terrain & Scenery Competition for Warhammer Fantasy Battle

We're looking for a few entrants into our forum's Terrain & scenery Competition. In particular Fantasy Battle scenery (think Skaven rat infested cesspits, Dwarven ale houses, Chaos sacrificial shrines, Beastmen execution stumps, Goblin magic mushroom fields, Bretonnian "Excalibur" Lakes, Dark Elf torture chambers, Lizardmen Slann-Mage throne rooms, Wood Elf forest camps, Empire Altdorf machine factories...

Ok, maybe I'm being a bit ambitious, a few hills, fences, rivers and the odd watchtower would be a good start.

Nothing too large or small will be rejected (from a simple hill, mud ditch, fence fortification to the ridiculously impressive High Elf Port below). The prize will be $1m - yeah right ! All we can promise you is the admiration of your fellow gamers and modelers.

Please note that we're not really looking for mine fields, razor wire, plasma bomb crater holes or piles of spent 40k artillery shells etc. but we'll take what comes if that's the only scenery entered !

Leave a message in the forum if you're interested in entering.

As an added incentive, the winners will make there way into the Hall of Fame in the below blog for expert mini painters and terrain makers (click the pic to go there).

Best Magic Item is a Dispel Scroll

Dispel scrolls were viewed by some as essential in 7th edition tournaments and even though 8th edition Warhammer rules limit you to one, it seems that the humble scroll hasn't lost it's appeal in Fantasy Battles.

Here are the magic items* ranked in descending order of % of members voting for that item.

* from the 8th edition Rulebook only, not the magic items in the army books
