Making Warhammer Batrep Videos

Excellent instructions for creating Battle Reporting videos by OnceBitten360 (one of the very best Warhammer Fantasy battle reporters out there)

Watch OnceBitten's reports, and check out his battle rating on WFBattles.com.

Popular Warhammer Fantasy Armies

I've added a section to WFBattles.com showing commonly collected WFB army combos.

The new table also shows which other armies each collector most wants, loves, loathes and fears and which other armies they are likely to have painted (use the dropdown box to select the info you want to see).

To read the table...

...take the army on the left, look across and the number you see in each column represents the % of members who collect the left hand army who also collect the army in that column.

As an example, in the table below 37% of Beastmen collectors also own a Br (Bretonnian) army.

For further examples click the "show explanation +" icon on the page. (high numbers are highlighted in red low number are lowlighted in silver)

A couple of interesting things I found on the "Owned" armies; Wood Elf generals seem to be the most frequent collectors of other armies, followed by Beastmen commanders. I reckon that's further evidence that both armies are underwhelming on the battlefield as players opt to collect other armies more often than other army collectors. Having said that, with regards to Beastmen it could be that it used to be packaged up somewhat with other Chaos armies and some units are interchangeable with the newer Chaos forces (such as the WoC warhounds, spawn, giants and the chariots which bear some resemblance).

It also looks like a lot of players can call upon their Orcs & Goblins and The Empire to fight their battles as they are the most commonly owned armies. It seems that I'm not the only one who started Warhammer with a bunch of frightened gobbos spearheading my charge into stolid and (in those days) completely implacable and stoic Dwarf wall of steel :-(

Best Fantasy Battles & Luckiest Winners

"Merry Slaughter" (most enjoyable Warhammer battles) and "Chosen of the Dice Gods" (luckiest winners) added to the Battlefields page
Vampire Countess painted

The new sections take the fun and luck ratings from the add Battle page.

Merry Slaughter
...shows the most enjoyable enemy army "match up" for each race*

* All armies are then ranked in order of "fun". So if, for example, "Warriors of Chaos vs Dark Elves" is at the top of the list it means that the match up is the most fun enemy to play against for Warriors of Chaos and the overall most fun of all the battles added.

Chosen of the Dice Gods
...works in exactly the same way as Merry Slaughter except it uses the luck rating from the add Battle page and only winning battles are taken into account.

expertly painted High Elven Griffon

As it happens, Warriors of Chaos vs Dark Elves is currently top of the most enjoyable battles which, presumably, is due to all the blood that is spilled by that notoriously blood thirsty lot! It's also a result of those two armies being the most successful armies which is likely to result in the players finding the battles more fun. Interestingly though, Orcs and Goblins and Tomb Kings are also in the top 3 and they are way down the list when it comes to win % (see ArmiesVs page) so maybe O&G and TK players are simply a happy warmongering bunch :-)

Unsurprisingly, Vamps, Wood Elves and Tomb Kings are in the top 5 luckiest winners, I suspect they rely more than most on the blessing of the Dice Gods ;-)

Note: the armies are likely to move around quite a lot in both the Merry Slaughter and Chosen of the Gods tables. This is because there are 225 combinations of battles so on average armies have only faced one another just over 4 times at the present. Some armies face one another more than others, High Elves and Warriors of Chaos for instance fight more frequently than Tomb Kings and Beastmen. Therefore a Beastmen or Tomb King game given a high Luck or Fun rating will have a disproportionate effect on the table averages until more battles have been posted.

WHFB Army Strengths & Weaknesses Opinion Poll

A Poll has been added to Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WFBattles.com) to find the strongest and weakest characteristics of each Warhammer Fantasy Army.

  www.LoserStudio.blogspot.com
It's a question that is frequently asked by new players and debated by experienced gamers across all the Warhammer forums so I thought I'd add a poll to WFBattles in an attempt to ascertain a definitive answer.

The poll enables members to rate all the armies from 1 to 10 for the following capabilities:-
  • Maneuverability
  • Magic Offence
  • Magic Defence
  • Ranged Offence
  • Combat Offence and
  • Combat Defence
Members will find the poll in the "Profile" section (see link in the top right when you log in).

It's FREE to join WFBattles and always will be!
(I developed it for fun not money)

You can change your opinion whenever you like and even leave an army unrated (if for example, you've never played against it or seen the army book).

Data is collated twice per day and displayed in the public Polls section (under "Army Power Ratings").

I've written some general guidance notes that members can take into account when rating armies if they like. The same notes can also be read by non-members in the "Notes" section.

Here are some screenshots...

WFB Battle Statistics (from ArmiesVs and Reckoning Pages)

  • Warriors of Chaos are the most successful army, followed by Dark Elves and Ogres
  • Orcs and Goblins and Beastmen prop up the foot of the table
  • Special units are the most influential on the battlefield, followed by Core and then Custom Lords
  • Infantry are by far the most important troop type (cavalry are way behind in 2nd place)
  • Magic just trumps shooting as the most influential phase but neither are as important as combat
  • Vampire Counts players are the luckiest, Bretonnians have the most fun while Skaven roll the worst dice and are also the gloomiest ! - possibly due to those dice rolls :-)
  • High Elves are the most common foe, they most are most successful against Orcs and Goblins and are beaten most by Warriors of Chaos
  • The Dwarfs are the only race that count shooting as their most important phase
  • The Forces of Order have usurped Foces of Destruction in the eternal war (if  the Forces of Destruction and Non-aligned armies joined  a coalition then the war swing in their favour)
  • Dwarfs and Orcs and Goblins are the most bitter rivals
  • Ogre Kingdoms are the best in tournaments, Woodies have been replaced by Beastmen as the worst
  • Order of Law is winning the current fantasy campaign, followed by Rebel Realms & Mercenaries

WFB Army vs Army performance statistics

WFB Member Opinions (from Reckoning Pages and WFB Member Polls)

  • Skaven, Warriors of Chaos and Dark Elves still have the most entries in the book of Grudges
  • Lizardmen and Bretonnia are still by far the least resented by other players
  • Lizardmen are the most wanted army closely followed by Ogre Kingdoms
  • Skaven and Daemons of Chaos are the least wanted armies
  • Dwarfs have been replaced by Warriors of Chaos as the most worshipped army
  • Warriors of Chaos is by far the most feared army, while hardly anybody fears Tomb Kings
  • Vampire Counts is the best army book, Orcs and Goblins are the most collected
  • Warriors of Chaos and Skaven are believed to be the strongest armies, and poor old Wood Elves and Beastmen the still believed to be the weakest :-(
  • High Elves is the most painted army, Skaven the least so (not surprising given all those slaves!)
