High Elves - the new Warhammer army list / book review

I have just purchased the new High Elves Army book (released Nov 11th 2007) and will, over the next few days, be posting up my review and findings. The review will culminate in a full side by side comparison with the last edition so you can see exactly what changes, additions and deletions have been made.

My findings, at a very summarised level, so far are:-

The High Elf Army will achieve a lot more success on the battle field.

Reasons:-

  • The whole High Elf army now Always Strikes First !
  • Phoenix Guard are very cost effective (Ward Save 4+ and cause fear for 15pts each)
  • The White lion Chariot has 2 lions Ws 5, Str 5, Attacks 2. Also, the White Lion crew will always strike first + chariot impact hits (140 pts - good value for your money !)
  • The special character Caradryn will cause D6 wounds (with no armour saves) to any opponent who slays him.
  • An army of High Elves including 1 or more mages benefit from +1 on dispel dice rolls
  • The High Elf Army can now choose 6 special units (ie. 1 of each special unit available if you like !) and 4 rare units (Eagle or repeating Bolt thrower). Bolt throwers now constitute a rare choice each, previously they were 1 rare choice for 2 blot throwers.

and...

Never fight High Elves with a Dark Elf army... High Elves can now re-roll all failed psychology tests when fighting Dark Elves !

Those are my initial findings from reading the book for 10 minutes. I'll come back with a lot more once I have analysed it in depth.
