Caradryan Captain of the Phoenix Guard (High Elf Hero)

Caradryan has the same profile as a standard High Elf Noble level character.

This hero costs an extra 86pts more than a normal noble with heavy armour (which, I think is quite a lot, unless he dies in combat ! see below)

Magic Items

The Phoenix Blade

  • Halberd * inflicts D3** wounds if enemy model has unit str 2 or more

  • Flamming attacks (double damage against flammable creatures**)
notes:
* mundane weapon characteristics cannot be combined with magic items

(no +1 strength for halberd)
** as always this is after all saves have been taken.

Special Abilities

  • Causes Fear

  • 4+ Ward Save (nice !)

  • Magic Resistance (3) !!!

  • Mark of Asuryan - inflicts D6 no armour save wounds on his slayer

My Conclusion

I find Caradryan a little bit expensive for my tastes. However he does have some quite unique abilities. I think he makes a great character against certain armies, like Tomb Kings or even better Wood Elves. It's that flaming blade and his overall resistance to harm. He is not likely to do a lot of damage because his blade is only strength 4 but he and his unit of Phoenix Guards should stick around for a while and, if he does die (let's say in combat with a Bone Giant or Treeman), it could be a battle changing event - in your favour !

for the other awesome new High Elf miniatures click here . I love these new figures - so a big thanks to GW.
