Flyers - when you have to use them !

Warhammer flying creatures and units are essential under certain conditions.

Briefly here are the guidelines...

When to use flying units

You MUST employ a flyer if:-

  • If your opponent has a lot of long distance artillery, machines of war, cannons, magic or bolt throwers and you do not have long range missiles to counter them

You might want to employ a flyer if:-

  • Your army is relying heavily on it's own artillery, cannons, stone throwers etc to whittle down the enemy and you know your enemy has flyers.

You might want to include a flyer / flyers if:-

  • Your opponent is very fast moving and can out flank you easily. You can use flying units to march block your foe.

How to use flying units

  • Your 1st target should be artillery pieces and other engines of war. Engage them to stop them from firing (hopefully permanently).

  • Your 2nd target is independent unprotected magic users.

  • Your 3rd target is fast moving or very hard units that you want to march block. Land within 8" (behind them or to the sides) and stop them from moving so fast. Make sure you fly off before they turn and engage you !

  • If your flyers are still alive charge units in the flanks.

Note: NEVER engage the enemy in a full frontal combat with flyers unless it's a hero/lord on a powerful creature. It is a total wasye of a very flexible tactical asset
