Warhammer Weapon Skill - Attacking & Defending (is it fair ?)

It seems to me that the Ws roll to hit table just isn't quite right.

I'm not certain if this is just a 'hangover' from the early years of more intricate rules or a genuine concern.

You see, I have found the 7th edition rules to really work quite well. They make for fast, fun and decisive battles.

But the 'To Hit' table simply seems a little, maybe, unfair ? It devalues a high weapon skill to some extent.

High weapon skills only become important when facing an opponent with a similarly high weapon skill to see who gets the edge over the other.

When it comes to facing low weapon skill opponents it doesn't make a difference if you have a weapon skill of 5 or 10 !

Surely, this should make a difference though ?

I was thinking about 2 alternatives to the 'To Hit' table. One was to either make is a decimal table and use D10 dice. The other was to create separate tables for both defence and attack.

The more I write the more I'm beginning to think that I am, in fact, wrong and the current system is fine.

It's just something that's been niggling away at me for some time now. It just doesn't seem right that weapon skill makes so little difference sometimes.

Has anyone else thought this ?
