Do Dwarf Armies cost less because there's less lead ?

Or is this eBay Hammerer the luckiest stunty in the World's Edge Mountains !

I felt a bit gutted when I saw this auction, until I realised it was only deliverable to the US (I'm in the UK). $200 for a whole Dwarf Army is pretty neat, although I would be melting them down into Elves - I hate Dwarfs ! :)

Anyway, some lucky beardling bought this army from my blog, right here. So, if you don't want to be a Bugman's tankard (that's Warhammer speak for "mug"). Get yourself on eBay for your Christmas miniatures (preferably through my blog to encourage me to update it more often).

For anyone interested, 165 miniatures (mainly metal), including some oop and rare miniatures like Malakai Makaissons Goblin-Hewer (note "Goblin", not Elf !) Oh, and also, one of those massive black army carry cases.

What I really don't understand is why only 1 person bid for it !?!

The Doom Seeker Warhammer Fanzine - Issue 6 PDF

The Doom Seeker Warhammer Fanzine issue 6 cover

The latest edition of the Warhammer Fanzine - The Doom Seeker (Winter 2010) has just been released as a FREE pdf.

BilboBaggins and his fellow Doom Seekers have put together another excellent Warhammer Fanzine for Fantasy Battle players.

Before the review, I should say that the guys now have a Facebook Group for anyone who's like to follow them and/or contribute to future issues:-

Search for :- "The Doom Seekers" in Facebook

You can find the latest issue (and contribute to future ones) on the Battle Reporter forum here:-

Battle Reporter Forum publications - The Doom Seeker

So, here's a brief review...

Pages: 38, size, about 17meg, Editor: Bilbo Baggins (himself !)

As always, presented with a refreshing, non-self-advertising this is how it really is attitude. The eZine contains some cool articles:-
  • A very nice review of the Kislev Army book by Mathias (the designer).
  • An Island of Blood Review
  • Seeing the world from a Gnoblar viewpoint !
  • Winter Gaming Scenarios and terrain ideas
  • Some characters from the new (unofficial) Dogs of War army book
  • A character profile for... Monna Lissa !?!
  • Creating Portals - getting the 3D effect
  • The Blades in the Sotrm - a short story by Ironlord.
  • Grubbi Chronicles - by, you guessed it Grubbi (A Gnoblar !)
  • The Fall of the Lone Rider - by Ironlord
  • Expression in Runes - an excellent Lizardmen Temple Guard conversion.
  • Commentary and a couple of interesting mentions of Armies of Arcana - a new rule set to recreate a more real life battlefield and Kings of War (by former GW Alessio Cavatore).
Island of Blood Review

Anyway, in a nutshell it's a worth while download and an interesting read.

Name a Warhammer Special Character

A mini Fantasy Battle competition for my Nautican (unofficial) Warhammer Army project:-

name this special character and I'll use the name in the final army book pdf (just post your suggestions here).

I'm working on the Nautican Army pdf again and will be making quite a lot of changes to try to balance the army for the new 8th edition rules. I have also ordered a few new miniatures like the one here. So, for a bit of fun, I thought I'd give my readers the opportunity to name this miniature (which is actually a Slithe Queen from Reapermini.com).

I haven't quite decided whether the miniature will be a Lord or Hero level miniature but it's likely to have a high armour save (due to all that natural plate armour !) and probably a high number of attacks - thanks to all of those arms :)  Because it looks so, errr... "untamed" I might include something in the rules to reflect that too.

I'm happy to accept humorous names or any ocean / sea themed names or maybe just names which are freakishly alien to the surface world !

The green coloured mini pics were kindly supplied by Brandt Lippincott (Facebook) and show off his excellent painting skills - thanks very much Brandt.

Brandt is a member of the Warhammer Battle Reporters Facebook group.

Ghorgon Miniature !

Spell it however you want:- Gorgon, Gorghon or the correct Ghorgon, it doesn't really matter it sounds the same and it will still tear the limbs from most of your Warhammer Fantasy enemies :) This model is superb and MASSIVE !

Coming it at almost 14 centimeters this bad boy is going to stand out on the Warhammer battlefield. The modelling is excellent and true to the Beastmen Ghorgon picture in the army book.

Check out the gaping maw on the left leg, the somewhat worried human in it's right claw, the horns, teeth, skull "medallion" and all those strength 6 arms or maybe I should call them appendages. With the stubborn attribute, leadership 10, toughness 6 and the ability to regain wounds this unit must surely prove to be one of the most popular in the Beastmen army (if you have a model for it !). I just don't understand why GW haven't already designed and released a Ghorgon mini yet ?!

Ghorgon, Gorghon or Gorgon model

Anyway, not to worry, this Ghorgon miniature fits the bill very nicely. It's sculpted by "Miss Painting Group" who are based in Hong Kong and contactable here:- miss_painting@yahoo.com.hk.

If you're desperate to get your hands on it there's actually a "Buy it Now" US $95.90 (or best offer) eBay auction going on right now (it ends on 3rd Dec 2010):-

Ghorgon Miniature Sale

They also have some Cygor models for sale, which also look the part:-

Cygor Miniatures for Sale

They're not cheap but I think they're reasonably priced and where else can you find these miniatures ? The only alternative I can think of is a Warhammer Giant conversion (which would be fun but it's not everyone's cup of tea and I'd be worried about messing it up !).

You can contact them through their Miniature Painting Group eBay shop.

New Warhammer Towers

Games Workshop have added 2 new plastic Fantasy Battle buildings to their advance orders; Witchfate Tor and Dreadstone Blight.

Watchfate Tor is a modular tower composed of stackable levels that allows you to fit models inside and on top. Dreadstone Blight is a wizard's tower ruin with an arcane flagstone base depicting the 8 Warhammer magic lores and two levels with enough remaining floorboards for a bolt thrower and a spellcaster ;-)

Both models look great both inside and out:-

Amazonian Miniatures for Warhammer

Some great models for use in the unofficial Amazon Fantasy Battle army.

Mysteriousbill (one of the Battle Reporter blog readers) kindly told me about a site selling some great 28mm Amazon models (from the Axibalan Empire). There aren't many but it's a nice start if you fancy collecting an Amazon army and the miniatures are very good quality.

I know there are other Amazon type miniatures out there and you should find some if you look for them. Citadel used to make Amazonian miniatures and my friend had a load of pygmies (many moons ago - back in the late 80's !)

Terrain & Scenery for Battle Chronicler

wfb battle reporting terrain and scenery

Some great new scenery and terrain for use in Warhammer Fantasy Battle reports courtesy of Battle Chronicler and it's followers - thanks folks.

All you have to do is run the .msi (installer) download which you can find here:-

http://battlechronicler.com/components/
(41mb installs into Chronicler components folder)

Note: I'm a bit paranoid about downloading anything from the internet so I performed a deep scan of my pc with Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7. I'm pleased to report that it didn't pick up anything (I wasn't expecting it to but I thought I'd set yours and my mind at ease - my Mum would be proud :)

Some of the terrain is actually for Napoleonic Wargames but it fits quite nicely with Warhammer and you can spice it up a bit with some other fantasy scenery from the same component file. You can take a look at the terrain before downloading it here:-

http://battlechronicler.com/news/

All thanks to Gerry Elliott and the other guys supplying this terrain for Battle Chronicler and even more thanks to the designer for creating the best Battle Reporting software available on the market - for FREE !!!

BTW, if you can come up with some great looking battle terrain I'm sure the Battle Chronicler designer would be pleased to hear form you. Also, I'll post it here for everyone to admire your artistic talents !

PS. I created the small example above to show you what can be achieved by mixing the terrain up a bit. It took me about 15 minutes but it probably won't take you as long because I'm very s-l-o-w at this sort of thing (and miniature painting !)
