Got any OOP and Rare GW Miniatures ?

You might be richer than you realize because Out of Production (OOP) and Rare Games Workshop Warhammer models go for a princely sum !

Empire Teutogen Guard by GW painted
With the "plastification" of rank and file Fantasy Battle miniatures (a welcome development from my point of view) your metal miniatures are soon going to go out of production if they haven't already. Lots of people love heavy metal - especially lead !

You might find it's worth hanging onto those cherished minis for a few years because some of the rarer ones are fetching big money on eBay. If you have any new in the box (NIB) metal minis from an abandoned army building project take a look at the eBay completed listing to get an idea what they're worth. Or better still, keep them in your loft for 20 years until Fantasy Battle becomes the next big thing in China and then see how many Yuan you can get for them. I wouldn't mind betting that they will go up in price far more than if you left the cash in the bank !

Anyway, here's an example of an Empire unit of Teutogen Guard that someone recently bought through eBay from a link on this very blog. See what I mean ?!

Word of Hashut - Chas Dwarf fanzine released

The Word of Hashut is a very high quality Warhammer fanzine for the unofficial Chaos Dwarfs army book.

Word of Hashut Winter 2011
The latest 90 page issue was released last week (I'm a bit late with this post but hopefully this will reach people who missed the original news).

Latest issue 11 - Winter 2011
http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=8901d
(50meg or a lower res 12meg versions available)

Past issues here:-
http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/webzine.php

You can find links to the:-
Chaos Dwarf army book and all the other unofficial Warhammer Fantasy Battle army book pdfs here.

The latest issue is packed full of great stuff for Chaos Dwarf fans but also some nice rules articles for the rest of us, especially those who might be facing the prospect of meeting them in battle !

I particularly like the Chaos Dwarf Battle Wagon rules by Grimstonefire and the rules development article for the Chaos Dwarf Land Train by Thommy H. Sneaky gobbo readers should check the tips and tactics for dealing with Orcs and Goblins to give them an idea of what they can expect from a Chaos Dwarf player. There are loads of great mini pics, some short stories and new Regiment of Renown units such as Thugman's Inebriated Brawlers (lol, wait until Bugman finds out - that must be worth an entry in the Book of Grudges - sacrilege !)

The member spotlight on TJUB is errr... revealing if you can read Chaos Dwarf runes.

Check out The Doom Seeker issue 7

The Spring 2011 issue of The Doom Seeker Warhammer fanzine has just been released by none other than Bilbo Baggins himself (and a trusty and very kindly hobbit and Battle Reporter forum member he is too !)

You can download the pdf (18.4 meg) from issuu, mediafire or 4shared (all the alternative links and back issue links are available on the Battle Reporter forum here:-

Here's a quick round up:-

unofficial Dogs of War army book cover
An interview with the group who put together the unofficial Warhammer Fantasy Battle Army - The Dogs of War.

An amazing 99 page Army book, well thought out, brilliantly presented and it's completely free !  You can't ask for more than that (click the cover)

A very noteworthy feature of the army is the War Academy skills that you can assign to your leaders.  It adds lots of character to your army and exposes some very original tactical options that you simply don't find in many other armies.

An interview with  Mathias (M4cR1ll3n from the Battle Reporter forum) about his Cathay Army book. Mathias actually created all of the below army books too which can all be downloaded for free from the Battle Reporter forum - they are simply brilliant - just click the pic below :)

Unofficial Warhammer Army books photos

Two articles from STEAM (a valued member of the Battle Reporter forum) about Tree scenery and assembling and painting the High Elf Griffon from the Island of Blood starter set.

Several excellent short stories by Ironlord and Tim Kenyon.
An awesome wood elf army from The Anti Santa and Tarrak BlackHand's Dwarf Slayers.

Last but not least is a superb list Bilbo has put together of all the best podcasts and forums in the Warhammer world. There are forums dedicated to certain races (there's even a Gnoblar one !!) and generic forums (like Battle Reporter) that covers all armies. It's a superb resource - all credit to Bilbo.

Games Workshop Hobbit Game - possibly ?!

GW had their licence extended by Warner Bros to include the new Hobbit movie, called, errr... "The Hobbit".

The Hoobit Movie poster
Which basically means that GW will be planning a Hobbit game I guess. I wonder whether it will just be an extension of the LOTR franchise or something completely new ?

Here's the press release...

"WARNER BROS. CONSUMER PRODUCTS EXTENDS LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH GAMES WORKSHOP TO INCLUDE "THE HOBBIT" AND "THE LORD OF THE RINGS"

BURBANK, Calif., Wednesday, February 9, 2011 - Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) announced today that it has extended its six-year licensing agreement with Games Workshop, enabling them exclusive, worldwide, all-language rights to produce tabletop games based on "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" properties.

This extension allows Games Workshop, the largest tabletop fantasy and futuristic battle-games company, to expand on their arsenal of battle-games and model soldiers. Under the agreement, Games Workshop will continue to develop and increase their offerings from Middle-earth, the literary creation of J.R.R. Tolkien, allowing fans to realistically recreate action from the books and movies, based on one of the most thrilling stories ever told.

"Games Workshop has been a valuable partner of ours for a number of years and we look forward to continuing and expanding this successful relationship," said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President, Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "Their products reflect the true spirit of 'The Lord of the Rings' franchise and, as anticipation builds for the release of 'The Hobbit,' the property's loyal fans will be excited for these richly inspired offerings."

"'The Lord of the Rings' is now firmly established as one of our core game systems, and the opportunity to expand it further with the upcoming film 'The Hobbit' is very exciting indeed, both for us and our hobbyists," said Mark Wells, CEO, Games Workshop. "The fantasy worlds of Middle-earth, as realized in the original works of J.R.R. Tolkien and in Peter Jackson's groundbreaking film adaptations, make wonderful backgrounds and stories which Games Workshop faithfully reproduces through its range of miniatures and battle-games."

Games Workshop products are available for purchase through Games Workshop Hobby Centres and independent retailers throughout the globe. "

Sir Ian McKellan (Gandalf) and Christopher Lee (Saruman) are both back which is cool.

Here's a decent site if you're interested :- http://the-hobbit-movie.com/

PS. I believe the movie is scheduled for release in the US on 19th Dec 2012 (two days before the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar - let's hope it doesn't get delayed :)

More Orcs and Goblins Pics and Dates

The Orcs and Goblins Army book and miniature release dates are 5th March and 19th March (2011 obviously !)  - now see the size of those GIGANTIC spiders - all 4 of them !

Games workshop or rather Da Black Gobbo has posted a short article on the new Greenskin army and there is a great picture which really puts the SPIDER into perspective (below). There is also lots of gobbo speak if you're keen to pick up the language and banter before your next greenskin scrap - vs enemies or mates or just with yourself ! (sorry, I'm just trying to get into the gobbo / orcish spirit)

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=15200022a

Check the individual advance order pages for each product to see when they're out. The book is on general release on 5th March. If you buy it through advance order you should receive it on the day of release through the post - ie before your red eyed, sneaky, mushroom eating frienemies have even dragged themselves out of their straw sacks :)

New Orcs and Goblins 8th Edition Army Released!

They're here, they're green and they're awesome ! Games Workshop have just put the new Orcs and Goblins 8th edition Army hardback (!) book and new models on advance order.

Orcs and Goblins 8th edition army book
These models are brilliant, I don't always get excited about new releases and I wasn't expecting to about the O&Gs because I didn't think there was that much more that they could do with the army (by way of new model ideas). However... check out the Giant Gobbo bearing Spider - the Arachnarok, it's brilliant ! (and as a nice surprise, it's not expensive either* relatively speaking !!)

* although knowing gobbos there will be some sort of sneaky catch or a snotling pickpocket in the shop ;-)

Anyway, I'm enamored with these new models (well mainly the spider), and the new army book cover which is also extremely cool. I like army books quite colourful, I think it's more fantasy like and this one fits the bill for me.

There are stacks of pics on the Games Workshop Advance orders page, although no sprue pics yet.  Check this out though, the Spider is made up of 95 parts ! that should give plenty of scope for people to customize the model to their tatstes. The spider howdah has a crew of 8 forest goblins and it includes a Flinger and a Catchweb Spidershrine - whatever that is ?!?

This model is HUGE, it comes with a 150mm x 50mm base !  (that's 3 monster bases, ie giants standing shoulder to shoulder - if you can find 3 giants sober enough).

Anyway, here's the link:-

I haven't been keeping up-to-date with the O&G rumours so I'm not sure how much of this is news but it looks like there is a new unit called the Nasty Skulkers - lol, I love it :)

Greenskins alert - GW site hacked !

It looks like the new Orcs and Goblins army book is almost due for release :)

title="Orcs

The sneaky greenskins have clearly been honing their hacking skills (and grafitti) and have paid Games Workshop's website a timely visit to advertise the pending release of their new army book.

If I recall rightly, the first indication of a new army book release is usually followed by the book itself about 6 weeks later. So, I suspect the next White Dwarf will have quite a bit of promotion / advertising / prices etc and we will be greeted by the O&Gs arrival sometime in late March. That's just a guess though, if you know any better please post a comment.
