Great new Chaos Dwarf models by Warhammer Forge

Forgeworld... Games Workshop... Warhammer Forge - however they're related (who knows, do we care !?) their off-spring looks good :)

Check out these these new minis from the Warhammer Forge section of the Forgeworld website (which looks like it's just Games Workshop in disguise - with slightly more daring miniatures)

First off we have the stunties gone wrong (ie Chaos Dwarfs) This army is now looking well worth collecting for a number of good reasons:-

First and foremost they are something a bit less common and therefore have that mystique and show-off factor that can be quite appealing (or at least it is to me - see my Nauticans !)
Next up, they have a very well supported community and unofficial Chaos Dwarf pdf army book that is widely accepted to be balanced and is permitted in quite a few tournaments.
Importantly for many people, the army sports some excellent new miniatures from both Warhammer Forge and Mantic Games and you can still find the old Dwarves of Chaos minis on eBay too!
The army now has some truly unique war machines that give it a completely different feel to anything else out there in the Warhamer World.
People will be less used to playing against Chaos Dwarfs so, in theory (my theory), you should have a better chance of winning with them :)

And, while I was visting the Forgeworld site I noticed some amazing new Empire-like / mercenary miniatures that I hadn't seen before (so maybe you haven't either)....

Check out the bell ringer for an interesting and original alternative to your usual musician. What with the standard bearer with the ship's tiller (or steering wheel if you like) and the ship's bell, these guys are clearly straight off an Empire galleon (or pirate / mercenary ship maybe ?) Either way, I love 'em :)

Warhammer Forge Chaos Dwarf models

More expertly sculpted and very unique looking miniatures from Forgeworld - this time they turn their attention to the bad stunties !

Hot on the heals of the Mantic Games Chaos Dwarfs (or "Abyssal Dwarfs) come the somewhat more official Games Workshop-ish offerings from the Warhammer Forge - it's a Black Day for Chaos Dwarf generals ! - BTW, in this context, "black" means good :)

These fellas look very sturdy like their Bugmans XXXXX quaffing Imperial Dwarf cousins. They also have a very original feel to them, they're not quite like the very old Dwarf renegades, the old juggernaut or (brilliantly named) tenderiser (see the foot of this post if you haven't got a clue what I'm talking about) nor are they like the infamous tall top hatted dwarfs. Check out all the straight lines, consistent angles and their general robust and somewhat intimidating look (see those helmet/visor eye holes !) These superbly presented models are for gamers who enjoy the consistent "unit look" in their armies.

These dark souls, otherwise known as Infernal Gaurd are carrying Fireglaives which are peculiar weapons which might resemble halberds but are actually repeating handguns with a long stock and large blade - ouch ! 18inch range, strength 4 and armour piercing, they also confer +1 strength in close combat !

Intriguiingly, there are some notes in the Warhammer Forge experimental rules which mention the Hailshot blunderbuss and Naptha bomb (which are unit options / unit leader options) and that the rules for these weapons will feature in the Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos book. I presume this is going to be a Chaos Dwarfv army book but I haven't really been following the army so I'm not sure. Does anyone know what Warhammer Forge's plans are for their Dwarves of Chaos ?

New Chaos Nurgle Models for Fantasy Battle

Warhammer Forge release nine new Nurgle miniatures in the shape of Chaos Trolls, Chaos Ogres and, errr... Chaos Toads ?!

I'm not much into the Toads to be frank (the modeling is good but they're just not really my "cup of ~~pus~~ tea"). I personally prefer the Trolls and I really like the Ogres which are excellent. Loads more pics on the new Warhammer Forge page at Forgeworld.co.uk:-

They have even come out with some experimental profiles and rules for for Plague Toads and the Bile Trolls which is a very nice touch (see above link). The surrounding fluff is great too (especially for the devoted Chaos worshipper who likes to talk filthy !)

from the Plague Toad rules "...Plague-Toads, also known as rot-eaters, and sewerkin; mutated, toad-like bags of brackish filth and pus whose wide maws can swallow a man whole." - [Ed. Nice !]

They are all multi-part resign models and all three Ogres have inter-changeable weapons and heads.

(BTW, my limited understanding of resin models is that they are not quite plastic but definitely not metal. I believe this makes them cheaper than metal, it means they don't have to spend a lot of money on expensive plastic molding machines used for mass production but the models themselves are not as robust [so don't throw them against the wall when you lose !] - that's my layman's understanding of it anyway. Please correct me if I'm wrong).

Warhammer Forge at Games Day 2010

While trying to delve into the new Chaos Dwarf miniature news I tracked down this YouTube video by Beasts of War with lots of new / work in progress miniature pictures (incl. 40k).

The model to the right is a Marienburg Land Ship (?!)

The video shows some of the new Warhammer Work in Progress models from Forgeworld and Warhammer Forge which, apparently, is a sub-division of Forgeworld specifically aimed at Warhammer model development. The interviewer also says he has heard rumours of Warhammer introducing titan scale units into Fantasy Battle in an Apocalypse style way. Hmmm... it's the first time I've heard that and it's quite intriguing. Now I have to find out what Apocalypse is all about to get a feel for what they're talking about !

Anyway, the video is worth a watch so I thought I'd share with you. All credit to Beasts of War.

New Chaos Dwarf War Machine Models

Warhammer Forge, which I'm lead to believe is some kind of Games Workshop spin-off are releasing some awesome new miniatures for Fantasy Battle in 2011.

I'm not sure how I missed these pictures from Games Day 2010 but I'm pleased I spotted them in the end. What a superb line up of new Chaos Dwarf miniatures !

I'm pretty sure GW said they would not be producing a Chaos Dwarfs Warhammer Army book but with the quality of these miniatures they might find that the demand for one will rapidly grow. Here's an excellent unofficial Dwarfs of Chaos Army book for anyone interested - I believe it's been sanctioned for use in a large number of tournaments too - although probably not GW ones (does anybody know for sure ?)

I'm not sure how they would sort out the profile stats for this collection of models. It looks like the Steam Engine, Bombard and Magma Cannon can be deployed as a single "weapons train". I guess you could also have any combination including the steam engine - which would be required to pull the rolling stock. The Skullcracker looks like a single model war machine.
